Background
Drake University is launching its Doctor of Education in Leadership programme in Singapore this fall, marking a major step in the university’s push to build global education pathways.
The private Des Moines-based university partnered with Nanyang Technological University, a private educational institution based in Singapore, to develop the programme. Both the Higher Learning Commission and the Singapore government have approved the initiative.
The 36-month programme blends in-person instruction with online coursework and offers an accelerated 21-month pathway for eligible students. Nanyang Science and Technology College’s city campus in central Singapore will host the programme and its students.
Drake faculty will teach the curriculum, which centres on leadership, ethics, technology, and research methodologies. The university says the programme is designed to equip graduates with globally recognised skills to address complex challenges in education and organisational leadership.
Ryan Wise, dean of Drake’s School of Education, said the programme brings academic rigour to an international setting, and that Singapore’s reputation as a hub for world-class education makes it an ideal location for the partnership.
Annique Kiel, Chief Global Affairs Officer and Dean of Global Programs at Drake University, described the collaboration as a significant milestone in the university’s commitment to developing responsible global citizens.
The Singapore launch is part of a broader international push by Drake. The university is also developing a study abroad programme in Seoul, set to open in spring 2027, and a data analytics and artificial intelligence degree programme in Panama City, which will begin enrolling students in fall 2027.
