The Delhi government has announced the recruitment of 5,346 Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) across its government and municipal schools to strengthen classroom learning and improve the student-teacher ratio. The government wants to improve education for students in Classes 6 to 10 by giving them more attention and making classrooms less crowded.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the recruitment drive reflects the government’s continued commitment to providing a nurturing and high-quality learning environment. She noted that the addition of new teachers will help create a more engaging and student-focused education system. “This initiative will ensure that students receive personalised support and have opportunities to reach their full potential,” Gupta said in a post on X on Wednesday.
According to data from the Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi currently has over 70,000 teachers serving more than 18 lakh students. Education experts have repeatedly called for additional hiring to address this gap, especially in subjects such as mathematics, science, and languages.
The recruitment process began on October 9 and will continue until November 7, as per the DoE circular. Selected candidates will be deployed across the Delhi government and municipal schools after the completion of the selection process.
