Background

Citizens School, one of Dubai’s most forward-thinking educational institutions, has obtained two significant awards, gaining full accreditation at the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and receiving a rating of Good at the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). The recognitions support the vision of the school to create mindset-first learning and equip students with a fast-changing future.

Based on this achievement, Citizens School becomes the first in the area to collaborate with Luma and incorporate design thinking and entrepreneurship into the curriculum. The partnership provides applied innovation tools, which can assist students to recognize real-life issues, experiment with ideas and create creative solutions or business models.

With this collaboration, teachers also get to be trained in the methods of facilitation in Luma, ensuring consistent, hands-on learning that mirrors how global companies and startups innovate. The approach supports the Citizens’ mission to go beyond academics, cultivating emotional intelligence, creativity, and adaptability.

Dr. Adil Alzarooni, Founder of Citizens School, said, “Being recognised by KHDA and COBIS affirms our direction. The integration of Luma’s design thinking framework takes this vision further, helping learners approach challenges the way innovators and entrepreneurs do in the real world.”

Principal David Lees noted, “Being recognized by KHDA and COBIS reinforces our mindset-first approach. With Luma, we are transforming learning into a space for creativity and leadership, reshaping the very concept of education.”

Established in 2022 by Al Zarooni Emirates Investments, Citizens School follows a custom-built UK National Curriculum-based framework. The 43,000 sq. m campus features modern facilities that support academic, creative, and physical development.
