Background:

Google has unveiled a wide set of new commitments to advance AI in education, announcing global partnerships, expanded trials and a $30 million funding pledge during its AI for Learning Forum in London. The forum brought together experts, educators, students and researchers to discuss how AI can help modern learning systems.

Ben Gomes, Google’s Chief Technologist for Learning and Sustainability, said the aim of the forum is to “share ideas, forge partnerships and collectively consider AI’s potential to help learners, educators and the wider ecosystem.”

As part of the announcement, Google confirmed a national partnership with Estonia under the country’s AI Leap initiative. The collaboration will give more than 20,000 students and teachers access to Gemini for Education, along with training support. Joint research will examine the benefits and risks of using AI in classrooms. Gomes described Estonia as a leader in digital innovation.

Google also revealed that YouTube’s new conversational AI learning tool is now available to users in the U.K. The feature allows viewers to ask questions, receive explanations and test their understanding while watching educational videos.

New research findings were also shared. Researchers ran a study with 165 students in the U.K., and LearnLM in Gemini 2.5 helped the students do better on their math tasks. Students using the tool were 5.5 percentage points more likely to solve new problems independently, while factual errors appeared in only 0.1% of AI responses. Google plans additional trials in the U.S., U.K., India and Sierra Leone.

Alongside product updates, Google.org announced a $30 million commitment over three years to support AI literacy and access. Funding will go to the Raspberry Pi Foundation, Fab AI and Playlab AI. Playlab AI will expand partnerships with state agencies in Idaho, Indiana and Tennessee to strengthen teacher training and build long-term AI strategies in schools.
