Background

US legal education firm BARBRI has agreed to acquire Lega, a New York-based artificial intelligence learning platform, in a move aimed at scaling experiential AI training for legal professionals and law students worldwide.

The deal brings Lega’s hands-on training model into BARBRI’s existing portfolio, giving legal practitioners access to workshops, simulations and hackathons designed to build practical AI fluency rather than theoretical awareness.

Lucie Allen, co-Chief Executive Officer of BARBRI, said the company had already been laying the AI knowledge foundation for the legal profession through its SkillBurst and BARBRI AI courses.

She added that Lega’s practical model would help learners move beyond awareness and into real competency, with the combined offering targeting law schools, law firms and individual legal professionals.

Christian Lang, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lega, will join BARBRI as Head of Innovation following the acquisition. Lang said Lega was built on the belief that legal professionals need safe, practical and hands-on ways to explore what AI can do.

He said joining BARBRI would allow the platform to reach every law school, firm and professional ready to lead in an AI-driven environment. Lang founded Lega three years ago after serving as an adviser at business growth consultancy LexFusion.

He also launched NY Legal Tech Meetup in 2017, a community bringing together lawyers, technologists and legal technology enthusiasts. Lega has run AI labs and workshops for Am Law 100 firms, legal technology conferences and innovation summits.

Dallas-headquartered BARBRI has pursued several acquisitions in recent years to build out its education portfolio. It bought digital learning platform Quimbee last year, acquired SkillBurst Interactive in 2024, purchased online course provider Strafford in 2021 and added legal training firm Kaplan Altior in 2019. Investment firm Francisco Partners acquired BARBRI in 2021.
