Background
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has announced a new cybersecurity programme aimed at preparing professionals to deal with modern digital threats such as deepfakes, AI-driven phishing, and misuse of large language models (LLMs). The course, being launched in partnership with AI-skilling company Futurense, is the first of its kind in India to integrate GenAI into cybersecurity training.
Starting on October 18, 2025, the nine-month hybrid program will begin. Learners will attend online classes and weekend sessions led by IIT Roorkee faculty and industry experts. They will also get the chance to participate in a three-day on-campus immersion experience.
The design of the curriculum is to equip the participants to work in security operations, cloud security, as well as AI risk management. Students will work on at least four practical projects while learning to use 30+ advanced AI tools, including LangChain, GPT, SOAR, and SIEM. They will also get access to Futurense’s AI Clinic for applied practice, a CISSP certification workshop, and the Red Teaming Handbook as additional resources.
Speaking about the programme, Dr. Gaurav Nayak from the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, IIT Roorkee, said cybersecurity has now shifted towards defending AI systems and cloud pipelines rather than just traditional networks. Dr. Raghavendra Rohit, faculty member in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, explained that as GenAI transforms technology, trained specialists will be responsible for investigating its nature.
Futurense founder and CEO Raghav Gupta noted that AI is transforming cybersecurity and stressed that the programme is designed to help Indian professionals take leadership in this space.
With certification from IIT Roorkee’s Continuing Education Centre and flexible payment options, the course is expected to draw interest from working professionals aiming to upgrade their skills in AI-focused cybersecurity.
